A Letter from Dr Ahmad Othman: Before You Judge a Doctor, Read This

Every now and then, something online reminds me why I do what I do — and why I’m so particular about how I do it.

Yesterday, while researching a respected peer in Europe, I came across something that gave me pause.

A negative review. Harsh, dismissive, and emotional.

It wasn’t about unprofessional conduct or unsafe practice — but rather that the patient wasn’t satisfied with the outcome. Fair enough, we all have different expectations. But what struck me was what came next:

She then praised another practitioner — not a doctor — for giving her “five-star” results.

At first glance, it seems straightforward. She didn’t get the results she wanted with the expert, so she found someone else who delivered. End of story.

But it’s not that simple. And it’s why I want to share this message with you.

Medicine Is Not A Quick-Fix Industry

When a doctor chooses a treatment plan, it’s not just about what works today. It’s also about what protects you tomorrow.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve chosen a slower route for a patient — less filler, more spacing between sessions, a lighter Botox dose — because I knew it would keep her results looking elegant and her face healthy in the long run.

A less experienced injector might have chased instant “wow” results. But in six months? She may not be as happy. And that’s the part the reviews rarely talk about.

It’s easy to love something that looks dramatic. It’s harder to appreciate the quiet care behind a result that doesn’t scream “work done.”

The Real Message I Want to Share

We live in a world where one opinion can shape our decisions instantly.

A single bad review. One dramatic “before and after.” One post that goes viral.

And just like that, a qualified doctor is written off — and someone else becomes the new favourite, without deeper scrutiny.

But here’s the truth:

You should never make medical decisions based on emotion or one person’s story.

Especially when it comes to your face, your health, and your long-term confidence.

How to Know If a Doctor is Credible: The “SAFE” Framework

I’d like to give you something simple — a 4-step mental filter you can use when choosing any aesthetic practitioner:

S – Standards
Do they follow proper medical protocols, hygiene, and ethics? Are they licensed and certified?

A – Approach
Are they listening to you? Are they rushing the treatment or educating you first?

F – Feedback Variety
Look beyond just one review. Do they have consistent, varied feedback — from real patients across time?

E – Ethics Over Ego
Do they refuse treatment when it’s not right for you? The best doctors say “no” more than you think.

You don’t need to understand all the technical details. But you deserve to feel confident in the person guiding your treatment.

Final Thought

Not every result will be dramatic. Not every review will be glowing. But good doctors — real ones — carry a quiet responsibility that can’t always be captured in a single testimonial.

So before you scroll past… before you write someone off… before you chase that “5-star result” from someone without medical grounding…

Pause.

Ask more questions. Look deeper. Get a second opinion — from someone qualified to give it.

And if you’d like to talk to me, you’re always welcome.

Warm regards,

Dr Ahmad Othman
